The Captive-Bred Orange Storm Clownfish is a premium designer Ocellaris variant prized for its bold, high-contrast patterning and intensely saturated orange coloration. Compared to standard Ocellaris, Orange Storms typically show thicker, more irregular white barring and a more “artistic” pattern layout that makes each fish look unique. As a captive-bred clownfish, it’s generally hardier, more aquarium-adapted, and far more likely to accept prepared foods quickly—making it a standout choice for both display reef tanks and serious clownfish collectors.
Orange Storms have the classic clownfish personality: interactive, confident, and often “hosting” a favorite corner of the tank (with or without an anemone). They’re also a strong option for reef aquariums because they are widely regarded as easy care and reef safe .

Orange Storm Clownfish Care Guide
Tank Size & Environment
A 20-gallon aquarium or larger is a common minimum recommendation for an Orange Storm (Ocellaris-type) clownfish, particularly if you plan on keeping a pair . Provide stable filtration and plenty of rockwork or structure so the fish can claim a “home base” and retreat when stressed.
Clownfish do not require an anemone to thrive, and many keepers successfully maintain them in coral reefs without any anemone at all. If you do plan to add an anemone, ensure the tank is mature and the lighting/flow are appropriate for the anemone first.
Water Parameters (Targets)
Orange Storms do well in standard reef conditions. The most important factor is consistency.
- Temperature: 75 F to 82 F
- pH: 8 to 8.4
- Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
Diet & Feeding
Orange Storm Clownfish are omnivores and typically eat eagerly. Offer a varied diet:
- High-quality pellets or flakes as a staple
- Frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood for variety
Feed small portions 1–2 times daily. Consistent feeding supports coloration, body condition, and reduces aggression that can sometimes appear when fish are underfed.
Temperament & Tankmates
Orange Storms are generally community-friendly but can become territorial around their chosen area, especially as they mature or when paired. They usually do well with:
- Gobies, blennies, cardinalfish, many wrasses (species-dependent), and tangs in larger tanks
Avoid pairing them with very aggressive fish in small systems, and be cautious mixing multiple clownfish varieties unless you have a large aquarium and a clear stocking plan.
Reef Compatibility
They are considered reef safe and are a great fit for mixed coral reefs. One behavior to note: clowns may “host” in certain corals (like euphyllia) which can sometimes irritate the coral over time—this is not predation, just persistent contact.
