Bring mesmerizing movement and a brilliant pop of color to your reef tank with the Green Alveopora! Often called the “Daisy Coral” due to its beautiful, flower-like polyps, this stunning stony coral extends long, flowing stalks that sway gracefully in the water current.
The Alveopora Advantage While it looks incredibly similar to the notorious Goniopora (flowerpot coral), the Alveopora is significantly hardier and much more forgiving, making it a fantastic choice for both novice and seasoned reefers. You can easily tell them apart by counting their petals: Alveopora polyps have exactly 12 tentacles, whereas Goniopora polyps have 24 .
Quick Care Specs:
- Care Level: Easy / Beginner-Friendly
- Lighting: Moderate to High. They adapt well to various lighting conditions but show their best neon green coloration under blue-heavy LED spectrums.
- Water Flow: Moderate. Aim for a gentle, alternating current that allows the polyps to sway naturally without being blasted against their skeleton .
- Temperament: Peaceful. They do not have aggressive sweeper tentacles, but ensure you give them enough room to fully extend their polyps without shading neighboring corals.
- Water Parameters: Tolerant of minor swings and actually appreciates slightly “dirtier” water with detectable nitrates and phosphates .
Diet & Feeding
Like most corals, the Green Alveopora receives a large portion of its energy from its symbiotic zooxanthellae through photosynthesis. However, to maximize growth and polyp extension, they highly benefit from regular supplemental feedings of micro-planktonic foods.
